Something terribly wrong...

There is something terribly wrong with the universe tonight. Ellen asked for "trees" for her bed-time snack. Of course neither Shawn nor I knew what she was talking about. I thought it was the plastic trees from Anais's Diego cake and that she wanted them on one of the left-over pieces of cake since cake, cookies or ice cream are usually requested. After a bit of frustration on everyones part, we finally figured out she meant broccoli which I luckily had in the fridge. To top it off, when she caught me putting a bit of butter on it sweeten the taste, she got very upset and said she didn't want any of that icky stuff on it. Now, this is probably the 2nd time she has had broccoli in her life (not counting when she was a baby and I could force feed her :-) so I'm sure tomorrow she'll wake up, the stars will be back in order, and she'll ask for ice cream for breakfast because "that's all she can think about!"

Parent's Day

It was Parent's Day in Ellen's class on Thursday and the kids did a music program and had an art show. They sang Baby Beluga which was very cute. There was some time before the presentation and afterwards so Anais worked in the classroom alongside Ellen. She'll be there in the fall and can't wait.

Baby Alert

My brother Peter's girlfriend, Stephanie's water broke tonight so a new Johnston baby is on the way. I'll keep you posted!

Party!

Anais had her 3rd birthday party today with a Diego/Rain Forest theme. There were about 12 kids plus a couple babies. The basement was a bit crowded but it was great fun. Jenny decorated the room to make it look like a rain forest complete with monkeys hanging from the ceiling and pictures of Diego and Dora all around. The kids made rain sticks and everyone got a Diego tattoo. The cake was, you guessed it, a Diego one and Anais was very excited about blowing out the 3 candles and just glowed with all the applause. Opening up the gifts was quite an adventure with everyone pitching in. Anais had a very special day. Thanks to everyone who could come!

Accident

My brother, Mark, got in a pretty bad car accident on Friday morning. He spent a night in the hospital with a severe concussion but thankfully has no broken bones. He doesn't remember anything but apparently was going about 40 miles per hour and a car going about 20 turned in and cut him off. His truck was totaled. Take it easy, Mark. We love you!

Trike-a-thon

Ellen participated in a Trike-A-Thon at school on Tuesday to help raise money for St. Jude's Children's Hospital. Ellen completed 8 long laps of the parking lot and raised $35.00 while the boys watched from the sideline.

The Stand Off

In the last week, the boys have begun to pull up to standing and now do it quite easily and on just about everything they can find. Thankfully they haven't yet started to push each other down.

Asthma

About 1 1/2 weeks ago, both Nicolas and Dylan had another cold that quickly went into their lungs. When we took them to the doctor, we learned that they now "officially" have asthma, something that we've been suspecting all winter. After a 5-day treatment of a steroid and the nebulizer (a breathing machine), they are much better. Now we are just waiting to see how things go so the doctor can find out what degree of asthma they have and what type of treatment might be best. Poor bugs!
